Dos and Don’ts of Nutrition:


I know, eating could be a challenge while you are undergoing cancer treatment. But eating the right food can help in not only tolerating the symptoms better, providing strength, but also managing them well. On the contrary, stuffing yourself with refined or processed foods and ignoring veggies and fruits can cause havoc in the body by increasing inflammation. Therefore, knowing the dos and don’ts will help you in achieving the right nutrition.

Here are a few dos and don’ts that you should know!

Organically grown whole grains to be used unless your personal dietitian or nutritionist advises otherwise.

Refined processed food items like- sugar, maida, ready to eat cereals, maggi etc.

Include white meat like Organic chicken/ fish/ eggs.

Do not eat processed meat and limit red meat as much as possible.
Fully and slow cooked lean meat can be taken as a part of your diet. Half cooked/smoked non-veg foods. Example- half-boiled egg/eggnog/smoked fish. Do not make it a habit to cook non-veg at high temperatures, for example- Deep fry, grill, and barbeque.

Eat lots of organic fruits and veggies on a regular basis. At least 4-5 servings in a day.

Do not just rely on any kind of dietary supplement.
Cold pressed/ extra virgin oil. Skip using Refined oils.

Follow a personalized diet plan, tailor made for you.

Do not randomly follow any diet plan available online. Do not believe in everything you hear or read.

Drink lots of wholesome liquids like water, herbal teas, homemade soups etc.

Do not get yourself dehydrated.
Try to manage your symptoms with food, body and mind.

Do not solely rely on medications.
Let there be variety in your diet in terms of every food group that you eat.

Do not drink or smoke.

Maintain hygiene and try to eat fresh food as much as possible.

 

Do not eat food that isn’t fresh or food that is about to go stale as you could be immune compromised.
